I've been communicating with Charles and he asked me to tell you all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
-
If you're talking to him again be sure to wish him a Happy New Year from me will you?
-
Pleased to hear that he still remembers us.
I'm sure he knows that it wasn't because of him that we migrated.
-
NO, he sold it before then. Him and I talked a long time before I made the move.
-
Now my curiosity is piqued.
What is the history of this forum?
-
We were on another forum that got sold. We didn't care for the new owners, so we started this one. Charles was the one who sold the other one. He is a great guy to work with, not so the new owners.
-
You've done an excellent job!
Thank you for starting this safe haven for beginners.
-
Thanks, but it is we, not I. Only a team could make it what it is.
-
Happy new year and thanks for making a place for us to hang out, even though I have not had much luck with my bees last 3 years.
-
Tell the "city boy" :D a Happy New Year and hope everything is going great for him!
Iddee, you left out a couple of other steps in between also!!
-
I told the important steps. I don't type enough to tell all the details.
-
Glad to hear from charles. Great guy and enjoyed Moding on his forum. It was a sad day when the new owners started making changes and willing to bet had Charles knew what was going to happen would have never sold.
-
You can bet on that. They had promised no changes and the members wouldn't even know it had changed hands.
They lied.
-
I'll get this off my chest----I signed on to this forum without, to my knowledge, having done or said anything improper on or to the previous forum. From time to time I get an automatic email notifying me that someone has added a comment to a thread I was involved in. When I try to enter the forum to see what was said, I'm met with a notice that says I'm blocked from entering.
It's insulting, to say the least.
Zulu, it was a pleasant surprise to see you writing again. It's been too long a time since I've seen any posts from you.
-
Every forum is different, each with it's own quirks, I should know, having tried most of them at one time or another.
It was indeed a sad day when the "old" forum was sold and yes, I believe that Charles had no idea what was going to happen and had he known, he probably wouldn't have sold it.
To those of us that were unhappy with the changes it soon became obvious that something wasn't right and a new direction was needed.
A temporary shift was attempted but when it too became apparent that that owner was interested in advertising revenue only and cared little for the wishes of the membership, Iddee took the initiative and created our own forum, run by beekeepers for beekeepers, and not as a company. Advertising is kept to an absolute minimum, with forum costs being supported almost in its entirety by donations from its members to keep it that way. As for profit, I am extremely doubtful there is any, that is not what this place is about.
"Old" members soon found this place and it has grown to become what it now is, a comfortable place to set down and have a chew with friends, a place to share a common passion and forge new relationships.
Thanks Iddee, and the rest of the members for the support.

EF the new owners admin Austin went in and blocked or banned many of us after the new forum started. I got booted after a heated discussion with Austin over advertising and milking a cash cow until it fell over long before we started this forum once banned Iddee and I got to talking and we started looking for a new place to call home. Once the forum sold a 2nd time the new owners unblocked most of us and sent out PMs inviting us back. Then shortly after that hired Austin back. I peek in from time to time but never log in. Im willing to bet you are one of a few that didnt get the block lifted The new owners didnt know who all had been blocked and probably overlooked your username. Once you are blocked your user id goes into a folder with others who have been blocked for various reasons including bad etiquette on the forum and spamming. But as they say when one door closes an even better one opens and we are glad Iddee had the keys to this room to open the door its a far bettter place to be

RR, rest assured, I have no regrets about having cast my lot together with those who moved here. I may not have been among the very first to sign on, but that's not because of not wanting to be with you all. There's something in my personality about "loyalty". Initially, I didn't feel there were enough reasons to abandon ship, and I didn't have to time to devote to activity on two forums. But, as I saw things develop further, I realized where my natural place belonged. Even now, though I'm here, and want to stay here, from time to time I'd like the freedom of the internet to allow me to look at "past history". I can well do without the previous forum (even though I have several good posts that I left behind), but I'm also not the kind of person who gets "banned", so the feeling isn't a familiar one to me.
Fear not, I can get over it.

i think of charles often.........from my experience an awesome guy and owner........quick to help anyone out, answer quickly, respond to issues/problems quickly and ran a pretty straightforward forum, okay........ along with the admin and mod team..... :P a great forum.
ownership shifted, changes were made.
like g3 said lot's of details left out to get this forum up and running with the membership base we have.......many followed over from the old, and it was because of the efforts of iddee, riverrat and the mod team here to get this forum up and running when this forum started out (G3, perry, myself).
like iddee said........."Only a team could make it what it is." and i would like to add...... and so do the members.........
members who followed, i give a great thank you and to those who came after and are still coming in.........thank you! you make this forum what it is and a great place to come together to talk about bees and everything else!
EDIT AND ADD...........
just for charles........if you ever decide to check in here or read the comments......i wish you well for a great year! hope you and yours enjoyed an awesome Christmas and i wish you the best for the new year!
-
I found out about this forum by chance. I had P.M.'d iddee on the old forum with a question which resulted in a phone conversation during which iddee invited me to check out this forum. I still peruse the old one & occasionally post ther but do not really feel all that welcome there any more. there's been quite a turnover in members as well.
-
RiverRat, OUR administrator, Iddee, saw my comments and dived in----wouldn't you be amazed, he pulled the right strings and got me "reinstated" in the previous forum. His powers are absolutely awesome.
I took a peak there---but I'm solidly here, on both feet. :occasion14:

ef,
iddee borrowed my magic wand............

.............. :D
btw, about iddee and rat..........awesome guys, anything to help a member out. they are humble, won't take credit.......but don't tell them i said so...... :D
you are a good soul ef and a valuable member. as ALL of us are. the other site didn't see it that way after it was bought out; and for many of us, we were treated the same as you, and some extra unpleasantries.
i am happy you are 'solidly' here on 'both feet'.
ef, you bring great knowledge of your experience with bees and a very positive, inspirational, caring attitude to this forum. i thank you! i wish i could have been in dave's pocket when he visited you!
thanks for being here ef!
-
riverbee says, "... i wish i could have been in dave's pocket when he visited you! "
efmesch responds: You would have been welcome then as you are now.
Let me know when you and hubby decide it's time to come and visit Israel. I'll give you the royal tour that will leave Blueblood anxious for his next visit. :)
-
thank you very much ef!

Thanks Eff
I hang out still, read a few posts at least once a week... been tough few years with bees for me - each time I get them strong they abscond. Too busy with work, Boy Scouts and swim official work to do more than one or two hives.
-
RiverRat invited me over from that forum... I think I asked what happened to Iddee and Perry and he sent me a PM... I was a bit worried HE would get banned for doing that... So I more or less just vanished from there, but never got blocked... I peek in every so often and have on occasion tried to help on questions that were not well answered, but I will call this place home until Mrs' River spanks me for something, then I am moving in with her.
So I have been here since near the beginning, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
Having this place to call home is one of the many delights of being a beekeeper. I don't think there is anyone I would not call friend... Even Jack...but don't tell him I said that. He would get all puffed up and we would have to wrap him in stinky plastic to DE swell him!
;D

lol,
rat did get banned.............so did iddee, myself perry and george........... :D
oh well, and then we were 'allowed' back.

hmmm, well if you leave here scott you WILL get a spankin' and me and zweefer will see to it.........

I am going to be heading toward that neck of the woods soon Mrs. River... A friend of mine bought a package business up that way and needs help with his house.. I will let you know where he is and what the plans are. Hoping it is close enough to enjoy one of Zweefs concoctions with you!
-
thanks scott.
in all honesty, we are considering selling the place. or keeping part of the land on the river. this has been hard for both of us.
let me know when you are up this way or where he is. zweef is in eau claire, if i speed without bees in the vehicle i can get there in less than an hour........ :D
