....to make old Perry a happy man!
This year the only major expenses I've had on my pick-up is a new rad and a new gas tank. I bought a tool box for it cheap but I don't count that as truck maintenance. (just remembered, had to replace a cab mount as well).
The seat in my truck is garbage, when I took it to have it cleaned they said they wouldn't even try as it would fall apart the fabric was so worn.
I took it to a upholstery place and they wanted $200 just to patch the drivers seat side of the bench. I actually thought about it but decided I would try an ad on kijiji first to see if someone had one that would fit. I had tried the auto wreckers here but they no longer keep vehicles as "old" as mine (91 GMC). >:(

I got a response from a guy in Southern NS who has about 9 of these trucks sitting in his yard. He was headed near me and said he would only be a half hour away so I met him and bought a seat for $100. It is way better than the original, nicer material and padding, has headrests and even a fold down armrest and is in like new condition.

I can't believe how much different it feels driving my truck now, I seem to sit higher and everything. I almost swear the truck is quieter and runs better and everything! Same thing happens after I wash it too.
This next year it has to go in for its bi-yearly inspection (November) and there are a few body issues that will have to be addressed before it will pass. Both front fenders are rusted and will have to be replaced (cheap, new fenders are about $70 each), one rocker panel and probably both cab corners. There are no dents on the truck so I am hoping to have the old girl done up and repainted by fall. I love this truck, had it since 2002, I'm the second owner. A couple of years ago I looked at replacing it and for what I was going to have to spend it just didn't make sense.

The guy I bought the seats off of says he has power windows for my truck and even air conditioning if I wanted. :) Those would have to come cheap before I would even consider it.

I've been talking with my brother lately about building a shed for making maple syrup and extracting honey. Many questions along the line of, should we....could we add.......what about a....his answer is always the same, "Will it/Does it, bring you joy"? I'm not sure why I brought this up but it sounds as though your truck, and new seat, bring you joy. Good on you and nice score! Ted

Sometimes we just over complicate things don't we?

How many days a year would you actually use the air conditioning?

I understand what your saying about your truck Perry, I have a 02 Blazer I feel the same way about. A vehicle for a man is a lot like his dog you kinda get attached to them (at least I do ) I plan on driving mine until I just can't repair it anymore.

It gets powerful hot here during the summer, uncomfortably so, for a couple of months. When we lived on the west coast (BC) the temps could hit 34 - 36C (93 - 97F) and I wouldn't even get wet armpits. Here in NS though, with the humidity, temps of 24 - 26C (75 - 79F) will leave me soaking am entire shirt, feeling like I have been carrying a backpack all day. We have been here (NS) since 2002 and I have yet to get used to the humidity.

a/c is a definite here as is HEAT, and also 4 wheel drive.........
amazing what a few things we can do to improve a ride. my sport wrangler is a 2000. the mister keeps saying he wants to buy me a new one. i don't want a new one. i bought this one used, and a lot of upgrades to it at the time of purchase. i looked around for about 5 years before i found the one i am driving. it's pretty rare to find this vehicle in the shape it was in (good) with added extras and low mileage. i have had some minor repairs, jeeps aren't made like other vehicles and simple fixes sometimes can be costly. fuel filter and some other yaddee gadget, it's not in a normal place........the gas tank has to come off. cha ching!
jeeps are a bit of a rough ride, i don't care, and the wind noise driving the interstate, even with a hard top on can be annoying........i just turn the tunes up........ :D i upgraded the stereo and the speakers in it, plays anything you throw at, and can plug whatever in to it. (i love music when i drive). the mister doesn't like my jeep for long rides, but i don't like his spaceship either. i can see all the way around it and don't run over or backup into things..... :D (he drives a gmc sierra 2016 with all the bells and whistles).
i don't have any power windows, heated seats, remote start..........etc........but i would like to purchase a new soft top for it with a sunroof. the old one is pretty hailed. i don't put it on in the summer.
the last thing i did was put an air horn in it.........it was a gift from a brother in law, to get the attention of all the texters and phone booth drivers.......
sure gets their attention and makes them move and pay attention. now i am putting in an old ooga horn just for fun...........
it's a jeep thing........... :D
