First beehives I ever built. Yes there are some mistakes. But measurements are right I pray. I learned a lot. Nothing like rough framing.

I used rabbets and splines on the boxes. Gonna try to figure out how to make the joints next.

Well done! Even the metal on the tops looks good, and you folded the corners so they wont be cutting your fingers every time you take the top off.
I feel your pain.. I have built a few houses, and hated the finish work so usually paid someone else to do it. Quickest and easiest joints are rabbit joints for the corners, but if you have glued and nailed the corner butt joints well they will work fine. I still have several boxes in use after many years of service with those joints.

Admirably and impressively done!! I think that you will be the best judge when it comes to deciding how long-lived your joints are. In any event, you have good reason to feel proud of your first encounter with hive consrruction.
As with LB, I too have a few hive boxes built the same way and they have been in use with me for well over ten years. I have to be careful about handling them from the corners because the seams have loosened and need to be positioned carefully when stacked, but they hive the bees well.

Congrats they look great. I have made more than I care to count now and prefer joints with rabbits and a 1/4 inch spline. They pretty much self square once assembled.
A friend and I built 8 frame deeps this weekend for his operation. Lots of math as I am so used to standard 10 frame deeps

I did use the rabbet and 1/4" spline on all boxes. Worked nice.

I'd be proud to call em mine. ;D

They look the best they'll ever look right now.

Fine work countryboyky! :)

Very nice work and I echo the "be proud" sentiment  Oh and I do rabbits as well unless I buy unassembled..... In AZ wood that has been treated well lasts a loooooooooooooong time.
