That fraction is going to bother me for years, but I will live it okay. I tend to be a bit driven, but thanks to a good wife and aging I accept that I will likely never be perfect. :)

B13,

It is a Master Beekeepers Certificate program. It is designed to last three years. First year is apprentice level, second is journeyman and third is master level. I have completed apprentice level. I've been trying to get in for a year but every time enrollment opens up and I have the money at the same time all the slots are filled. I'm cool now because the next level is only for those who have either passed this level or clepped the apprentice level. It's pricey and on my income I will have to save up and buy books and material one at a time. I'm truly enjoying all of this.
I have always said retirement is when you stop doing what you have to and start doing what you want to and that pretty much sums up my life these days. :) :) :) :)

WAIT!   What did I do wrong?   I keep threatening wife I am going to go get a job so I don't have to work so hard!

LazyBkpr,

I decided in my mid- twenties to follow a life plan of retiring at 50. I worked like a plow mule all my career and managed to retire at 51. By plow mule I mean no days off, any overtime available, etc... Sweet wife tracked me one year and I took 4 days off one year. That includes holidays-management always needed volunteers for fire watch on holidays.

The net result was that once I retired Sweet Wife had a honey-do list that spanned 20 years. Since I've retired, I've built two houses, three barns and about a mile of goat fence.  That said, hearing her say, "You're my hero!", means a lot more than an "Attaboy" from my employers. :) :) :)

Got your back there Neil. Understand 60+ hour weeks, out in every storm, leaving the family xmas eve. Wonder when your coming in if you are gonna catch yourself leaving. Like we used to say rode hard and put up wet.

Mikey,

It is university of Montana-master online beekeepers course. Tuition runs about 300 to 500 depending on level. I can't recall exactly right now. The level I just finished is apprentice and it is made of of basic info- diseases, biology, colony dynamics etc. Learned stuff I will never need like how to wrap a hive for winter but who knows maybe I'll lose my mind and move up north one day.
Thing I like is advice is based on scientifically proven concepts. Internet is a great place to learn things but it is always possible that the info you get is just wrong.

If you google it the site will come up and you can get on the mailing list for upcoming classes.

That said, hearing her say, "You're my hero!", means a lot more than an "Attaboy" from my employers.

I stand firmly beside you there!  I worked two jobs from the time my wife was pregnant until the twins were ten. Then quit one job and opened my own gun shop. gunsmithing, bluing etc...  And.. worked until the fateful day my wonderful wife took me out on the back porch, handed me a rum and coke and said....   "I want you to quit working."

Unfortunately she meant quit the paying job and become her slave.    WORKS FOR ME!

Here's an update.

I just completed the Journyman level at U of M with a solid A, 96%!

Already connected with a research buddy for the Master's level. Not sure what research project we will settle on but we have some good leads.

I understand Missouri has started a beekeeping certificate program.  Unfortunately, I don't remember anything more about it and where I saw that in print.

Neil, congratulations!  That's wonderful!

Congratulations Neil You now know more than I do. I have just been figuring it out as I go along. It has taken 36 years of mistakes to get to where I am today. With the courses being offered, One can fast track the education process. Also when I started it was premites when keeping bees was much easier.
