Had a good birthday, thank you all for the wishes. Got a few nice things. One of which is a new computer. it is a monster with two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti graphics cards in SLI, liquid cooled cpu etc...

The day after I got to go help distribute package bees for The WIlbanks, and my buddy Ted showed up to help to. Had a lot of fun! Although Ted kept helping the cute ladies and made me help the guys.
-
One time! One time that happened! You gotta admit it, she was cute! Ted
-
Yep, she was!
It was a lot of fun sending Tim pictures of the Abandoned wife we found too! He texted me when we left...
"Yall are a Riot!"
Apparently he wasn't upset we were fighting over his "Abandoned" wife.
He had 1800 packages show up in Wisconsin the next day. Thats a LOT of bees... He said our packing job of the packages we sent with Sarah was Exemplary and they all made it in one piece.
I had a lot of fun... OH, my daughter stole the jar of syrup you sent home with me... I should have hidden it... >:(

Yeah, I know. A lot going on this time of year, and with the wife out east I have to do it all on my own, so pretty busy, except on rainy days like today where I can relax and see who posted what! No need to be sorry, even if the truth stings a wee bit. ;D

My bees took a big hit this winter. It was a terrible winter. I am STILL cleaning out hives. I had eggs in early February. I assumed I lost most hives because they used reserves because it was so warm.. daytime temps in the mid forties, nighttime temps ten to twenty degrees... In cleaning hives out, I am finding a LOT of capped syrup/honey. I have at least fifty gallons if I was to extract it at this point. EVERY hive had lots of honey, but I am finding dead bees in small clusters. five or six clusters in each hive. baseball sized clusters, along with bees dead on brood. I can only assume that when we had warm spells, queens started laying, and then the bees did not leave the brood and froze. It was warm, they were flying, and then when temps dropped down near single digits, they didn't go back into one large cluster, they started several clusters that were not big enough.
I am starting to think Robo's idea of foam hives might have more merit for winters like that, so the temps do not fluctuate so dramatically inside the hives.
Starting over with the hives I have left. Been a good spring, they are building comb like mad.
It was a good birthday though! ;D
