Title: Help Please have to do a trap out
Post by: gibb on June 07, 2017, 09:36:49 pm
I received a call tonight for a swarm of bees, took me about an 1 hour to get there. I pull up to the house all ready to go and no bees???
I start looking around and see an opening above where the bees were suppose to have been. The swarm had already entered the house.
The house is about 100 years old with no insulation. I have never done a trap out so need some guidance's and suggestions. The hole is above the door about 9 feet of the ground.

All the information can be had in this post -> http://www.worldwidebeekeeping.com/forum/index.php/topic,29.0.html

I will tell you to get right on it as soon as possible.   I have had good luck having them abscond within a few days if they have been in the cavity less than a week.   After a week,  it will be a much longer process to complete.

Is there any way to get the entrance to the nuc box any closer to the base of the cone? Other than that it looks good.

If you can't get box closer,  you can use a stick.

Wanted to update and thank everyone on my first trap-out job. It went very well and I ended up with both a new 10 frame hive and a smaller 5 frame nuc from the job. Took about a month but caught every bee at the site and the home owner was super happy. All the suggestion and information really help make the job easier.
My little bee yard went from 4 hives this spring to 9 plus the nuc so I am learning the true value of having drawn out comb.
Photobucket has changed their policy so will have to figure out a different way to share pictures.
