Was at one of my yards and the landowner was bush hogging some field. He stopped the tractor so we could chew for a while and out of the corner of my eye I spotted something jump. I walked over and found two baby hare that had been whacked by the hog and a third that was just frozen in place (after it hopped and I spotted him/her). I picked it up and brought it home and after talking with the Wild Life Rehab people I took it back and placed it back in what was left of it's nest. Apparently they are born covered in hair and with their eyes open. Their mother only stops by twice a day for a couple of 5 minute intervals and that's it.
I will return tomorrow and see how it fared.

This thing was too small for that, it fit in the palm of my hand with room to spare, it was tiny.

is it late in the season for babies? Wow they are so tiny.

Good for you Perry. Bunnies will nest in the weirdest places. I found two nests this year, the first in the middle of my strawberry patch and the second in a mound of Prairie Dropseed.

neat story perry........have recently had those little long eared critters run into or across my feet while near the garden! they are teeny things! grabbed one up the other day, just for fun, nothing but a teeny ball of fluff and not afraid; mother was some distance away. set it back in the grass, hopped around my feet a little, and off it went!

I remember raising baby rabbits. So many dreams of getting rich for raising them and selling THEIR baies... No we didn't know the difference between them and the white ones our folks raised....
Grandma told me to add sugar to the milk if I wanted to keep them alive. I'll be hanged if it didn't work!

Rabbits have made a big come back around the farm? They like the two bee yards here and some stay under the hives between the concrete blocks. Many times when working hives they come out and set about 5ft. from me and watch me work hives? Also when i walk to the barn they will be playing or grazing and just watch me walk by? We have 6 or 8 barn cats that the wife puts feed out for and they are not afraid of them either, and the cats don't bother them? The rabbits don't bother the garden, But we do have a big ground hog that does and he stays under the Brooder house next to the garden and the least little noise from the house and he is gone :sad:It's just a matter of time and he will slip up and i will introduce him to Mr. Remington. 8) Rabbits around here don't act like rabbits use too for some reason??? :no: Jack
