Title: 2nd dead out. Look !
Post by: Mikey N.C. on November 28, 2017, 05:34:12 pm
This was a split in late April.  Never made much honey because of timing,  but she was laying really good.  Added 2nd ten box with 5 fr drawn comb in the middle , late June,  box seemed to be doing good, lots of bees. Bees stored some pollen and honey up top but not much.
I reduced the box down 3 weeks ago with. 2:1 miller top feeder.  Temps. Have been on a roller coaster 30° some nights 48° some nights.
Checked hive today, maybe 50 bees , no capped brood and YJ's in and out, started taking box down. And look what i find on bottom board.

Now i know this is not the original,  how can this happen with no drones ?

You don't need drones to raise a queen. I wonder if your hive threw a late swarm and this is what was left behind and she never mated?

I found the same thing today in one of my hives mikey. Just didn’t see the queen. Only bees in it was robbers. The tell tell sign was all the wax on the bottom board at the entrance. I didn’t see but a few dead bees. Idk all the other hives are doing good.

I would thank it's an abscond, situation.  But not sure.
2 small Q cups,  but no Q cells.
Is it a probability that they made her ? For emergency management?  Even being this late in the yr. ?
