Happened in France, to a drunk Englishman.
French traffic policeman stopped his car and asked the gentleman if he had anything to drink.
Englishman admitted that he had been drinking all day, his daughter got married to a Frenchman, so he had few glasses of red wine
and two bottles of white wine at the reception, and at the end a few glasses of vodka.
Upset, policeman asked the Englishman if he knew that under the laws of France he will be arrested.
The Englishman replied: No, but do you know that this is an English car and the driver, my wife, is on the other side??
