How do you guys keep the squeakers away?
-
So far I haven't done too much in that way. I might have the occasional one, but it's probably something I should address sooner than later.

I have mice, and they will go through a 1/2 in. wire. I use 1/4 or 1/3in. wire, or a commercial mouse guard.
-
A mouse can get into anything larger than a dime size opening.
If he can get his head in, body slides right through.
1/2 hardware cloth is to large.
-
I have used the commercially available guards and also the metal drywall edges cut to the proper length with a few of the holes enlarged to 0.375".

The 1/4" mesh tends to plug with bees so instead of screen, I drive a palisade of thin nails about 3/8" spacing into the notch in the reducer. The bees have an easier time dragging the drones and cadavers out.

found the mouse mummified in the hive on the bottom board, all encased in propolis
