Hello All, I am getting ready to pull the trigger on an extractor. I have decided between the Lyson 20 frame SKU LYEX21620M from better bee or the 20 frame belt driven Maxant. I am leaning more toward the Lyson, however what is holding me back is that awful wine from the controller. Those of you that own the Lyson, What is your opinion of that whine? is it as loud as what I hear on some of the videos? Or is it just a hum in the background, as the machine is run. I know this is a purely subjective question, but your opinions will help with my decision.

Hello Baker, Right now I have 10 full hives and 2 packages that are doing very well for the short time I have them. I may be splitting 4 hives in a few weeks, which will bring my count up to 16 . My goal is 20 hives. The real money is in selling bees and that is what I hope to do, to help offset the expense of this hobby. As of now, I am not worried about selling honey, just want to increase the number of hives. I have a 4 frame manual extractor.

Don't know about Dadant on the quality of their extractor, but bought a controller 1 from them and the fit, finish and welds were not very good. Looked as if some high school kids were making them. Their warranty for the controller is just 90 days and you had to pay for shipping to them for them to determine if it was warranty work. If the warranty card was not returned in 10 days then the warranty is void. Personally I would not buy anything stainless wise from Dadant, just my opinion.
I have a nine frame electric SAF like is sold by Brushy Mtn. and have no complaints at all with it. I bought is used with a couple of dings but basically unused. It has the old style Baldor motor and controller on it. I know it is made in Italy but could not pass up the price.

I have a 20 frame Dadant. the fit & finish is fine. it's direct drive so no belts, variable speed, & it's quiet. I have no complaints. I have been averaging 20 hives during the honey season & looking back I probably could have gotten by with a 9 frame model. I had the metal laying around so fabbed a clone of the dadant stand myself. I've extracted with it twice & have no complaints.

I love my Dadant 20, got it cheap second hand. 32 to 36 medium frames fit in if I want to, or 20 deep frames (which I don't run for honey supers). I have no idea of the quality of their newer stuff though.

Rober, you had to throw a monkey wrench into the works! LOL you had me thinking about the need for a 20 frame extractor. But, to quote someone else on this forum, bigger is better, i would think. Besides, I'm too poor to buy twice, so I'll stick with a 20 framer. I'm glad you chimed in about the quality of the dadant extractor. I was eye balling that one but it is 200 more than the Maxant. After watching a few more videos of the Lyson, that wine is just too troubling for me to purchase one. i have enough trouble with tinnitus to put with an additional siren in my ears. So I'll do a little more looking before a commitment is made. But that Maxant is starting to look better and better. Thanks for your input.

I have to go back & look up the maxant to remember why I went with the dadant. another factor was the that dadant was until this past February a vendor at the E.M.B.A. day long beekeeping seminar. I got them to bring it with them when they came which saved me close to $200.00 in freight charges.

But then, it is a hand crank machine, and there's little I can do about my whining, other than tell 3Reds to cover her ears.

Something else to consider between the Maxant 10/20 and the Dadant 20 Flint1. The Dadant can spin 20 deeps and/or mediums, whereas the Maxant can only spin 10 deeps and/or 20 mediums.
