Title: Observed Deformed Wing Virus
Post by: Bakersdozen on August 27, 2018, 05:27:44 pm
I noticed some bees were being evicted today.  I thought it was too early for drones to get booted out.  A closer look revealed Deformed Wing Virus, which is transmitted by varroa mites.

Of course, I found this in front of one of my strongest hives.  Varroa seem to really hit strong colonies the hardest.
What a motivator to get more shims made so I can use the apivar.  Instead of treating some colonies with the apivar and shims I had on hand, maybe I should have waited to blast them all at once.  I may have created a varroa bomb.
