Title: Goldenrod or Asters and smelly gym socks scent

We are having a friendly debate in this area and I wondered if anyone had an answer.  Mid-September we start smelling the scent of dirty gym socks from the hives.  Is this because the bees are working Goldenrod or Asters.  I think it's Goldenrod.  Any thought?

I've always heard it's goldenrod, but I rarely have enough nectar coming in in fall to experience it myself.  Plenty of blooms of both and plenty of pollen, but little nectar.
