Okay, I was looking up videos on observation hives because I am infected with the idea of having one attached to my guest room...shhh, wife doesn't know yet... 8)
Anyway, take a look at this video. This gentleman believes he has captured rare, if not ever captured, footage of behavior inside the hive before swarming. Now, don't be turned off by the bizarre beginning, he tapers off. So, the goods start around 1:00 into the footage. Pretty cool. Anyone else observed this behavior. I don't really see how it would be practical to unless all of your hives were transparent. And, there are other signs to be aware of but I thought it was an interesting thing to note. Enjoy.

a great video blue, thanks for sharing this!
what i have observed is something similar prior to a swarm in my hives, except bees packed solid on the frames, shoulder to shoulder doing a 'wave', or rocking back and forth, with some bees doing a circular type thing as he shows in this video, and at an elevated hum.
very cool!

Nice find Blue, that was a cool video thx for sharing.

Never seen the inside of a swarming hive but the entrance sure does get busy and then after a few minutes it seems to be life as usual.

I also noticed that was a D. Coates nuc box! :) Gotta love 'em! ;)
