Keeping warm at Hotel Blueblood

The lows tonight and tomorrow night will be 28.  I brought my prodigious oak tree bees nuc inside until the weather improves in the next 48 hours.  By my account, the queen cells were capped yesterday which was the 8th day from when eggs were placed in the nuc.  The numbers were lower and didn't want them freezing.

You know you are spoiled when you use 2 top of the line clamps to keep a lid on a nuc.
Me? I gotta use a rock, or if I'm really worried, some duct tape.  :D

You guys..... :D  Scott has the inside scoop on the tapping on the nuc jag.  Perry, the clamps were to keep those rascals from crawling between the gaps on the very ends.  I have found bees to be very similar to mice in that if they can get their head through, the body will follow.  Jen, it's a good thing I brought them in.  Here is what I found this morning outside when I woke up:

The sun is now shining and the skies are turning blue..Indiana is really bi-polar.  Here is a small video of the bees this morning.  They really want out of there.  You can see the hive junk they started bringing to the entrance over night.

Temps JUST made 32 degrees here...  supposed to make 47 today, and 63 tomorrow, but were also supposed to have 30 mph winds tomorrow and be cloudy all day if not rain...   One day at a time... looking like next week will be 60's and 70's  unless they just posted that to keep thoughts of suicide at bay like they do in Canada

I was raised in winters that you guys are talking about. I understand that desparate need for the sun.

Blue- I keep in mind that bees can handle very cold temperatures but they can't handle 'being wet' in cold temperatures. So that slows down my ear muff knitting to some point  :D

You can keep your cold winters Jen...I am ready for warmth.  I know those bees can handle the cold but I am afraid the yo-yo temps will catch them off guard and leave them too thin over the brood.  I wish I could bring all my hives inside.
