Adding supers....
« on: April 23, 2014, 07:22:07 pm »
Well added supers to the hives I did not split, they were starting to get crowded.
Clover is blooming around here now.

Hope we have a good honey crop this year, already got people calling wanting honey.

I'm adding supers as well. Hoping this cold wind will take a break so I can take a peek.

nothing but a few trees blooming here yet. Supers are ready, but looks like another week or so before they will go on.

Supers? What are those?  :D
I won't have to dig those out for at least another month or more.

I know you don't want to hear this but I have 3 hives that almost have their first super full.

 Fixing to add a second.

These were 3 very big hives and I removed the queen and 2 frames of brood (Mels way) to see what would happen. They have not had any brood to feed the last 3 or 4 weeks and have just been storing everything they have been bringing in.

Have found a new queen in each one and she should be laying any day if not already.

1st of the dandelions have popped up here. Have had tree pollens coming in for a month and tomorrow or Friday the 2nd brood box will get put back on top and they will get put in the Cherry Orchard. they were knocked down to a single when I fed a patty 7 weeks ago. they are the perfect size for going into pollination, a full box of healthy young bees and a empty top super for the queen to lay in and for the storage of nectar and pollen.

I was taking down the snow fence yesterday and as I was on my hands and knees rolling it up, I noticed both clover and dandelions green and starting to grow.  I give the dandelions about a week or so here then its on!

We counted forty to fifty dandelions yesterday around the bee hives. Won't be long now.

Went to two out yards yesterday to put supers on between rains. Not enough bees to work all the dandelions in bloom here, the redbuds, dogwood, wild plum, wild mustard, henbit, and dead nettle are all in full bloom. Found two deadouts (bummer) that look like they starved, my fault, bad beekeeping. Jack

I added a couple super on the hives myself Friday, the bees in one hive really needed the room, hope the other gets there and some honey this year. Got the first crop of honey already asked for, they are even stopping by seeing the honey bee hives from the road, hope I have enough.

Went out today and got the MAQS out of the hives.  Put a super on each one.  Cleaned the SHB trays under the hives.  Ready for honey now!  I saw some clover blooming in the yard today.  I'm optimistic.  Of course, now the weather is going to be stormy for the next three days.  Just my luck.  But maybe they'll clean/straighten the comb that's in the supers, and draw some out on a few bare frames I put in there.  :::fingers crossed:::

Looking good Greg! I need me one of those work wagons. Have threatened to build a little shed (told the wife it would look like an outhouse) out next to the hives. Would be awful handy to keep bee junk in, especially a few extra supers and smoker tender.
