How far

will a swarm travel looking for a new home??  I've read that the bees will travel up to 6 miles for food but never heard of how far swarms will travel.  Just curious  ???

This topic came up before.  I think the number was within 100 ft?  It was suggested a keep look around a little while after catching a swarm to see if he/she can find the the mother hive.  I have found the mother hive in just about 9 of 10 times within 50ft or less.  Now this may just bee the immediate exit stopping point.  The answer to how far they go may indeed be an entirely different answer.

Was curious as the swarm I caught last year wasn't one of mine.  Nearest hives to me are about 3 miles away. 
So the 100' or so is just to hang out till the scouts find a new home.  Thanks for the info, now back to watching your latest swarm catch  8)

Just had a thought.  How far will the scout bees that are looking for a new home travel??
