I've placed two orders with Mann Lake this year, well, ever.  On a scan of 1-10 (10 being the best), my satisfaction level is hovering somewhere around a 2.  I saw BeeyBoy's and PapaKeith's comments yesterday in chat in response to a comment I made... but are they know for absolutely poor customer service and communication?  I'm rarely one to ACTUALLY complain, but, by golly, I did just that yesterday.  What's worse, is their desire to make me a satisfied customer was non-existent.  I just don't understand. Maybe I'm being unreasonable.  Please read my two stories below... Am I just being absurd?

1)  My first order was placed in April over the phone because the free shipping wasn't working online.  Because I placed my order so early in the day, I was told my order would be shipped the same day, I'll receive confirmation once it's packaged, and that I'm in the 1-day ship zone so I'll see it either the next day or the day after.  Late the following day I called because I hadn't received tracking info.  I was told that it will be packages and shipped the next day.  This makes 2 days since my order was placed and it "should" have been shipped.  I called the next day to verify it was going out, I had received the email.  They told me my order had shipped and gave me the tracking number.  Upon trying to track it, FedEx had no record of it.  Day 4, late afternoon, FedEx has record of it.  I received the email from Mann Lake the next day.  I received the package two days later... INCOMPLETE.  1 item missing.  By this point my bees were delayed, so I wasn't concerned, but why hadn't they told me that 1 item was back-ordered?  This didn't bother me too much at the time, it happens, and I wasn't getting the bees quite yet anyway.

2)  I placed an order on Monday, May 9th.  Among the items ordered were frames.  I can make frame for FREE, but ordered them because I was in a rush and knew I would not have time, so I broke down and spend the $$.  I followed up the order with a phone call to try to figure out when I would receive the items so I can plan my week out.  I'm very CDO* about planning things.  I was told the order was received and should be shipped by the end of the day.  My goal was to have my order by Friday at the latest, but I was assured I should see it on Wednesday, but no later than Thursday.  I'm not going to go into the details of the email confirmation in this story, but I will say it was FAR WORSE than in the previous story.  When I didn't receive my package on Thursday, I called and was given the tracking info, it will arrive Friday.  Friday the order arrives... MISSING ALL THE FRAMES!!!!!  Again, why hadn't they told me this?  I called (yes, hard to believe, but it's true).  I was told they had been back ordered.  I explained my dilemma about NEEDING them.  He called the PA location where my orders ship from.  They have some on the showroom floor and will ship them right out.  I'll see them Saturday or Monday.  Wednesday night rolls around and I still don't have them.  I called at ~ 11:15am.  They're back-ordered, he'll see what he can do and get back to me within an hour.  At 3:15pm (4 hours later) I called after never hearing back.  The person I spoke to couldn't help me, he's going to get me customer service.  After sitting on hold for 7-8 minutes I heard the woman answer, state her name, the call went fuzzy, and then dropped.  I was on a land line, phone system issue, no biggie.  I called back within seconds, and she was the one that answer!  I explained to her what was going on and she said she's look into it.  After a couple minutes she came back on the line.  She told me the top bars are currently being made.  She apologized for the misinformation I had been provided over the past week and a half.  I should have been told from the beginning I would see the frames for 3-4 weeks.  She put me on hold again and came back to tell me the truck to PA, where my stuff ships from, has been loaded and has left.  Because of the way trucking works I won't see my frames for at least another two weeks, maybe more.  I politely, but firmly, explained how unhappy I was with the situation and that if I had know it was going to take this long I never would have ordered them because I could have made them, for FREE, but needed them in a hurry.  She's sorry.  I asked if there was anything she could do to get me my frames in a more timely manner.  There's absolutely nothing she can do, but she's sorry.  I then explained my utter displeasure in the service that I've received from Mann Lake and verified that there's no way they can get me my frames faster.  I verify she is customer service and would like to keep a customer happy.  She said she is, but there's nothing she can do.  I ask if they have frames at their MN location.  They do.  I ask about getting them shipped from there.  It's not possible and would take longer than just waiting from PA.  I asked about overnight shipping from there.  It would still take longer? ? ? ?  I then play the card that I NEVER, EVER, EVER use (I really don't believe in this, but I actually did it)...  This will be my last order from Mann Lake.  They've lost a customer.  She is suddenly able to offer shipping from MN.  I verify that it will be overnight, it will.  Well, at 12:47 this morning I get an email from FedEx.  My package will be delivered June 24th.

Believe it or not, I left out much of the drawn out details, but I am sorry for making it this long to begin with.

Has anyone else experienced treatment like this from Mann Lake?  Am I being ridiculous?  I think I stayed pretty level headed.  I really don't expect more than simple, honest communication.  Things get back ordered, shipping gets delayed, I understand this... I just expect to be made aware if it, ESPECIALLY when I ask!  Had I known it was going to take this long I would have made time to make my own frames over the past two, or at least enough to get by, but I've used my time doing other things I need to get done because I "knew" my frames were coming.

*for those of you who are unfamiliar with CDO, it is the same thing as OCD, only the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be!   ;D

if you promise not to laugh I will tell you, I also get Mann Lake equipment, but through Amazon.com. never had an issue, tracking shows up within a day, package is always arrive earlier than they say they will, but then this stuff is coming out of Amazon's warehouse not Mann Lake's. oh when it's over $35 shipping is free.

I know you said you saw my response in chat but I figured that I would put it up here for those that don't visit chatland.

I've only ordered online, but my experience couldn't be more opposite than yours.  I ordered the wrong foundation for the frames that I had ordered.  They called me up the next morning to tell me that they noticed the discrepancy and to ask me if I was sure that was what I wanted.  We corrected my mistake and I got what I wanted in a timely fashion.

didn't the PA location just recently open up? not excusing poor customer service, but maybe part of the source for the mixup? With someone on the phone you would think that they could look up availability right then and their during the order process.


I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

   I have never had an issue with an order. On time and as ordered..    I did have an issue with the queen clips.. the clear plastic ones.. I EMailed them and asked if they had any other style that might last beyond being opened the first time..   the lady apologized and offered to give me a credit..   I declined.. at 3 dollars each it was not worth the effort..
   The only real issue I have with Mann Lake is that I EMailed them multiple times asking permission to link their site. I never got a response to any mail..
   EVERY other person/company replied to me within a day. From Michael Palmer and Mel Diselkoen, Don and many others to Brushy Mountain, Dadant etc..   I received replies within a day.. Sure, Please do! Etc...   That alone was enough to stop my Mann Lake orders..  If they are too busy to send a three word reply, then they obviously dont need my business.
Drinking RUM before noon makes you a PIRATE not an alcoholic!

I have probably ordered from Mann Lakes at least a dozen times.  The last order, a couple of months back, was a back order.  And in three weeks they still not have the supers and frames that I needed.  I ended up canceling my order and purchasing from another vendor.  I did think it strange that a huge company such as Mann Lakes was not able to keep boxes and frames in stock.  That being said, my next order will go to Mann Lakes.  They have always supplied me with good products and good advice.  I also like the fact that they are an employee owned company.

I get most of my stuff from Mann Lake Mn, they have won me over from Dadant with there quality.
If we ever have a problem, they bend over backwards to satisfy us.
What more can I say. I love them.

I'm doing a cut out tomorrow and I ordered a complete box set this morning ( out of stock anything but that one kind). But I already got confirmation from FedEx and a Tuesday delivery  two deeps with frames

I purchase most of my stuff from Mann Lake and have been very please with their quality and customer service.   At times I thought the shipping was a little slow,  but that was when it was coming from Minn to NY.  Can't complain too much with free shipping.  If you have a "have to have it by" then pay the extra shipping to get it guaranteed.

On my last big order,  two days after the order they sent out a Bee Blast that had hive bodies on sale.  I emailed them asking to get the better price and within 10 minutes received a response and a new invoice with the lower prices.   

I was a little disappointed when the pallet was delivered as the hive bodies pieces where just loosely stacked on the pallet and then shrink wrapped.  Needless to say, the pallet had been damaged and hive body sides where hanging out.  I thought for sure I would be missing some, but they where all there.

I would rate them a 9 out of 10.

I think you may just have had poor timing and got caught up in the new PA distribution center.   Not making excuses, just suggesting not to give up on them yet.

mann lake, hackensack, minnesota...........excellent service, excellent customer service and communication.  any problem, it's corrected yesterday.  like tefer said, they do bend over backwards, that's been my experience,  can't say enough good about them.  i only use 2 suppliers, and mann lake is 2nd on my list for supplies.  they have sent me samples of smaller items and followed up with me if i had any questions. 

sorry capn for your not so good experience, it is frustrating, but as robo said, give them another chance.

I order from Mann Lake for many years and 2 to 4 times a year, only had one miss order. I had ordered hook wire med. foundation and was sent hooked shallow foundation ??? i never called them about it and just kept it, figured i would probably use it. (haven't yet though :-X) Unlike Squirt i place them number one, and the reason they send her smaller free samples is because they know she's a Squirt.  :laugh: :laugh: Jack

Out of curiosity, what items from Mann Lake were of higher quality than Dadant?
I've only ordered once from Mann lake and was pleased with the service. I bought some of those plastic frames, won't do that again, but only because I hate the things.
Most of my stuff comes fron Dadant, but only because its convenient for me to stop by and pick it up.

Yes, get over it and try Mann Lake again.  ;)

Mann Lake isn't perfect with every piece or every order, but pretty near.  Brushy Mountain is right up there too.  Have been disappointed with wood quality and fitment several times with ML competitors (Dadant & Rossman), but sometimes they offer things Mann Lake does not -especially accessories for five frame NUCs and queen rearing supplies.

Once again, I agree with Lborou.  In my above post, I mentioned that ML could not provide me some hive boxes.  After canceling that order, I ordered the boxes from Dadant.  The Dadant boxes did not fit together quite as well as ML boxes.  They were of adequate quality for bee rearing, but the fit at the corners was not as good as ML's.  Mann Lake's provides cabinet quality wood work.

I have spent over 10000.00 in the last 5 years with MANN LAKE and never had a problem and all orders come in a few days always .

  Mann lake Woodland Ca great service . One order received supers that did not have their normal quality called and let them know and two days latter i received five supers that i had not asked for free of charge to replace the ones i had called about. Great customer service from this location.

Since they decided I wasnt important enough to deserve the courtesy of a reply to 5  E mails I have spent about 2 grand through brushy mountain, but I never did have any issue with the quality of mann lakes stuff.. other than the plastic queen clips. The free shipping was the primary draw, the good service and equipment was a bonus.

I've been buying from Mann Lake for three years now and have had nothing but good experiences.  I was needing to place an order a couple of weeks ago; but, I was going to be out of town on Thursday and Friday.  I waited until Tuesday to place my order so that it wouldn't arrive while I was gone.  It usually takes 4 or 5 days to go from MN to NC.  Well, imagine my surprise when it showed up Friday!  Luckily, my daughter picked it up so it wouldn't get rained on.  Turns out, it shipped from the new PA location.  I am excited about the faster delivery times going forward.
