Heading out to check my church trap-out when I got a call as I was headed out the door. A swarm call that was actually on my route to the trap-out!  :)
When I got there (about 10 minutes later) it was about as easy as they come. The swarm was heavy enough that the branch they were on broke. Seems late for swarms like this.  ???
10 minutes later I was back in my truck to check the trap-out.
I had already removed 5 frames of bees and figured this must be winding down. When I peeked under the cover I couldn't see the top bars for bees. Guess I'll have to remove more frames in a couple days.

Nice big swarm as well! Much better chance of surviving considering this time of year  :)

Hey Zweef, they were "OK", nothing earth shattering, but considering it was my first day there, and no one knew I would be, it was decent. Broke $200 anyways.

Although I am happy you picked up this swarm, Its not the best time of year to find a swarm. Although it could turn into a profitable colony next year, there are no guarantees that it will survive the winter no matter how much resources you put into it. A swarm at this time of year is not free bees. It will cost him. there is little chance that this hive will store enough for winter on its own so heavy feeding and frames of honey that could have been extracted will need to be provided to it. The bees in the swarm are the older field bees so major brood rearing will need to take place to get an abundant winter bee population. Hopefully you will have lots of pollen coming in this fall and feed, feed, feed,. You could provide it with a few framed of capped brood and give it a 2 to 3 week head start on the winter bee population.

still, it's pretty cool :)

I'd be tempted to just split it up and use the population to bolster other hives by combining.  No idea if that is a good thought process or not, but it is the first thing that came to mind.
