Pulling Queen for Honey Booth Ob. Hive
« on: September 25, 2014, 10:34:37 pm »
I am a little nervous about pulling the queen for tomorrow and Saturday festival.

Do I have to worry about putting her back in the hive Sunday morning, She would be out of hive for almost 48 hrs.

I am also a little worried about stressing the hive this late in the season.

Just not the its worth the risk. I think the bees themselves might be good enough.

I would pull her each morning and put her back in the evening. Overnight, and they may forget her.

Problem is show is not over till 8pm and will be dark when I get home. I would be opening the hive put her back in in the dark.

Maybe I just grab her for saturdays show. Get her sat morning then put her back sat night.

That would be what I would probably do.

End of august fair for myself is equivalent to this time of year for where you are. Pull the queen for 5 day fair. Pull her on Tuesday and return her the following Monday. Go in and cull the cells that they have started before returning her. Have a 3 frame OH so make sure she is in between the frames when putting her back into the hive. Have never had a problem with queen loss doing this.
