Iddee will like this
« on: December 28, 2014, 02:06:10 pm »
Reading about Fair Grove, Mo. history and found out it was named by Wills Spence from NC. in 1851, he was from Randolph Co. NC. Story goes some of the settlers was at a Brush Arbor and trying to come up with a name for the town and Willis said how about Fair Grove, that was the name of the Methodist church he belong to back in NC. and they all agreed .Hope he was a Democrat, i'm thinking at that time most of the southern part of NC. was confederate. :P ;D. It's in my county, but I don't live in whynot.

Interesting, tho. Thanks

If he was a Dem, it may be why he had to leave and go to Mo.

At that time he had to be a Dem. ;D, now aday we are the minority  :o. Thanks iddee, i read some of the civil war stores about Why Not, that was a horrible war and some bad feelings still exist over it here in Mo. like families on the west side of the Big Sac river were Dem. and families on the east side Rep. most of them related and killing one another. Jack

He was most likely Indian, and not involved in politics. Pence and Spence are common Cherokee names in this area.

Me, too. They say that is why I only have to shave every 2 weeks or so. Lot of Cherokee on both sides the family.

Yes, Pembroke and Robeson counties are mostly Cherokee and Cherokee mixed.

I have my mothers Irish skin, and my dad's cherokee deep brown eyes. It's a powerful combination with my mother's Irish temper and my dad's cheerokee smoke signals  ;D
