question on building solid bottom boards

I know why flooring is t&g.  But, is there a reason why bottom boards are t&g or lapped?  Why not butt them with glue?  They are locked in the sides by the dado groove.

I don't glue the floor of my bottom boards.  If the bees don't like the small gaps that might appear as the wood dries more they can fill the cracks in.  I would imagine if that were a problem, though, no one would use screened bottom boards.  In my opinion, the aesthetics of a hive and it's components are merely to keep the beek happy.  Bees live in holes in trees, logs, shrubs, etc...  I'm pretty sure they don't care about a cracked floor.

I used to glue my T & G together and found when the wood shrank (if it did) it would just crack someplace else. I just tap them together now and sink screws in through the sides to hold them in place. Any cracks that appear soon get plugged up with propolis anyway, and bottom boards are easy enough to make I don't need them to last forever.
