April beekeeping in Nova Scotia
« on: April 03, 2015, 04:44:56 pm »
Snow is receding nicely today. Tops of all the hives are exposed and at least level with the snow (doubles)
Went around and checked 3 yards. Had to do some of my beekeeping on my knees!

My neighbour chummed along.
Was that you behind me Michelle? Too funny, I thought I saw a car get close and then completely back off. :D
I had the back of my truck half loaded with all the sawdust from cutting up my pine for boxes, and I purposely took the #101 Hwy. to try and lose it all! ;D
Sorry if that was you. :-[
Everything is looking pretty good so far this year (knock on wood), I may get lucky and have another great overwintering.

I too spent the day checking on and cleaning up my hives.  Seeing what you are dealing with makes me feel lucky to have bare ground under my feet.
I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

I have not met Bill personally, but my friend Adam and I bought 10 of his queens a few years ago. He is extremely well regarded in regards to the Buckfast Queens he raises and sells. I have read many glowing reports from larger keeps down south as to their quality. Adam actually paid him a visit last fall and got to see a part of his operation. He is quite isolated which is probably good for his operation. Adam said that he is advanced in age and was hinting that he was looking to perhaps get someone else involved to carry on. It would be a great opportunity for the right person.
