Yesterday was Package day at the Wilbanks Homestead.. not the one in Claxton GA, but the one here in Iowa.
As always, it is a really good time handing out everyones packages, and talking to the other beekeepers, weather they are old timers or just getting started. I heard more than one comment about how NICE everyone seemed to be.. is that really a great surprise in this day and age? I remember when everyone you met was nice, weather they were beekeepers or not..
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that there are no secrets in beekeeping. We are not talking about your Prized Morel hunting spot. Every beekeeper is happy to tell you how he, or she keeps bees, and that makes for a friendly environment.
TedH came over after hiving his packages and joined in on the conversations..
We watched nimble fingered Tim mark queens, and the highlight of the day? Ted asked Tim to hold his finger.....
I think it had to do with how much pressure he used when holding a queen, but I was afraid to ask!
I sold some hive components and had a great time. I did manage to get stung half a dozen times removing the hobo bees from the packages. Looking forward to the gathering in a couple weeks!
