Dead spider!

I have a small bird bath that the honeybees have settled into using on a regular basis.  It is right next to my garden shed, so I glance at it all day long.  I noticed something odd and walked up close and found a spider had one of the bees in it's grip.  Too late to save the bee but the spider has been sent to purgatory :-\.

One bee paid to kill 50 mosquitoes trying to lay eggs in the water. I think I would have left the spider alone.

Zweef has a picture of a spider at one of my nucs. The thing had half a dozen stingers in it. Was a pretty big spider compared to the bees. Apparently they decided they didnt want it near their hive.

Iddee, water gets changed everyday and somedays they drain it dry.....no worries about skeeter eggs.

Zweef, really had that many stingers in it?  Wow!  This spider was sneaky, hung out on the underside of the birdbath and came up over the edge and nailed her.

So funny Les, last year there was a praying mantis next to one of my hives dining on one of my girls. The bee was clutched in both praying matis's paws chomping on it like a hamburger. It even turned it's head and LOOK STRAIGHT AT ME WHILE CHOMPING! THE NERVE!

But I love praying matis's so I had to let it go. And I knew from there on that PM was going to get a square bee meal everyday.... along with the lizards... But the lizards eat the black widows... sooo

I saw a spider like that black one in the cinderblocks under my hive stand. Actually I think mine also had a red fiddle, so I wasn't sticking my hand inside. couldn't catch it with a stick so I stuffed weeds in the opening to keep my bees out of its trap.

Big garden spiders and praying mantis I move to the grapevines which are constantly being eaten by something

Zweefer "the dead kind"......cracked me up!

Preying Mantis are good to have around Jen but I have seen photos of them after hummers.  Last year I found the same one (I assume it was) on my hostas.  The hostas were directly under the hummer feeder.  Three times I plucked him off and put him in the veggie garden.  Tell me he wasn't stalking the feeder.
