From the article, it appears Burt was a naturalist, but for a man of his wealth, 37 acres seems like a small place. It is also apparent that he was still an old hippie. To say the least he was an "enigma." God rest his soul, he was a unique character.
There is a documentary, Burt's Buzz, you might find interesting. It seems that he was lacking in business skills. He had a partnership with his girlfriend, I don't think they married. As I recall, he got caught fooling around and she insisted that he sign his share of the company over to her, which he did! She turned right around, sold the company, and made a fortune. As his face was the brand associated with the product, any money he had was made doing public appearances and such after the company sold.
I felt like he was content with what he had. If he had more money, he wouldn't have known what to do with it.
He did a lot for the world of beekeeping.
