Here's wishing you an easy and successful event.

It's difficult to keep the bees from a bee removal alive this time of year. I typically wait if the homeowner agrees. Sometime you just don't have any choice.

As I understand it, "an open air cutout"  means something like cutting off a hive on a branch.  Those pictures will answer my curiousity. I'm waiting with the rest of the crew to see them.

It looks to me like they were in a nice protected corner.  Considering the climate/temps info I got on the internet, I would have given a family of that size in that location a 50/50 chance of survival.  Inside a nice snug hive those chances should certainly be much higher---especially since you can follow their development and feed them if their supplies run short.
Here's hoping.

Mosti, are those native bees or feral bees?  I remember something about Brother Adam's visit to Malta and the suitability of your native bees for propagation.  Just curious.  Maybe I can find the passage...

Added:  It was Cyprus, not Malta, my mistake.  What kind of bees do you have there?  I'd guess they are a mixture...What are their characteristics in comparison with European or African honey bees?

:-)

@Riverbee...Thanks

@Lburou. ..We have our own native bee, apis mellifera melitensi, it is being threatened by imports though.

Nice to see the pics of the fanning after a cut-out, it almost always signifies success. :)
