Characteristics of Races of Honeybees
« on: October 15, 2015, 11:53:16 am »
I came across this PDF file on Characteristics of Races of Honeybees It list the characteristics  or the different bees found in North America. Although I think most bees out there are a mixture of the different races. But a good reference in determining the genetic back ground of a queen by the characteristics of the hive.

I posted the link as well as the PDF file in case in the future the link file gets moved.

Thanks Apis,

My bees definitely exhibit their Russian genetics. After your advice on the SHB I found, I did a complete inspection and found no SHB damage or even eggs/larvae. I also observed one of the workers dragging a bee larva out of the hive and tossing it off the landing board. I picked it up and looked it over and it had a very small almost translucent mite on it. We  are in a dearth right now and I assume they are using this time for some housecleaning.

Very nice Apis, thank you.  My best swarm of the year seems to have a lot of caucasian bees.  I wondered at the black and grey, but they are gentle and productive and not swarmy.
