I've found a way to slow down those collisions. I did some experimenting with some hives on a cement slab.
Place the entrance reducer on the bottom board with about a 3/4 inch gap between the reducer and the bottom hive body. It keeps most of the bees from flying into or out of the hive. Too big a gap doesn't seem to help at all.
Too small a gap helps a little.
