the past few years i have only ever used seven dust. I have been carfull not to get in on the blooms of my squah plants. this is the only thing i use it on cuz squash bugs here get really bad.  any suggestions to a new but affective remedy?

I use powdered lime. It comes as quick lime or hydrated lime. It repels many insects, but doesn't kill bees.
Sevin dust is as bad or worse than neo's, imho.

So it prevents squash bugs too? Lime would be good for the land too.

I guess it does. I have never found a squash bug when I used it. No tomato worms, either. It also keeps the japanese beetles off my grapes and roses.  Yes, in the acid soil we have here, it helps with the PH.

If it's white, they won't get near it. I just toss it on like throwing out chicken feed. At ten to twelve dollars for fifty lb., you can be fairly free with it. Five lb. will cover a good size garden and it lasts until the rain washes it off.

If I have to spray for bugs, I use liquid Sevin at sunset.  Usually, the bugs I don't like aren't too bad when the flowers are going.  I spray when the fruit/veggies start growing, after the flowers have fallen off.  But spray at sunset when the bees are home.
