Was reading old post, this years garden got way to much sun , not enough water had surgery late March so that didn't help . I was watching TV in hospital where these gardeners use 5' of 2" PVC with cap on 1 end an drill 1/8 " holes from capped end up about 10" (hole's all the way around, then put it between 2 plants in row , capped end an holes under dirt ,then just fill pipe with water. Thought of maybe trying that this year just to see (was thinking that algae would grow in PVC pipe an block holes

Not if you drilled a small hole down in the end cap so the water cant stand in the pipe it would be a slow release but it would empty and dry out between fillings.

we have considered doing the same mikey! probably do it next year! for all the $ we have spent on soaker hoses, good ones, bad ones, or using old hoses with holes drilled in them they don't last. the pvc, easy to build/put together with all the pvc parts available for configuration! only thing we have talked about doing different is rather than drilling a 1/8th inch hole is to buy the mister/sprayer jets. you can buy these at the big box stores in different configurations, just drill the hole in the pvc, and screw the jet in........!

River, Mikey is not pressurizing just using gravity feed at the plant. the pipes will be planted in the ground and look like fence posts.

thanks apis, we would just be running water from our well through a hose to the pvc piping just under the dirt, seems to be just enough pressure to run through pvc and water the plants with the small jets, did a crude trial run, seems to work..........?

You want your hose or plastic lay on top of soil not under it. Water has to trickle down. There’s so many ways to hook up a watering system. You can hook up a timer to you outside water faucet or hook up a system with a food grade barrel with a timer connected to it to bring the water on when you need it. youtube has some good videos on how to hook up a watering system for your garden.
