Sure wish I could have some chickens, but I am up against 3 things, my honey dosen't want them around, my dogs would kill every one of them, and no good place for a chicken house.

I have contemplated raising chickens, we eat a lot of eggs. But I have so many other people and critters to take care of for now. I'm with Riverbee... maybe down the road

Jen I could see you as the cochin bantam type! They are little with what looks like a pin cushion on there butt and feathered feet. I think you could do a chicken tractor that would make easy to put on clean grass. If you decide to have a rooster then I would advise 4 hen minimum. If

Avoid the rooster if you want to keep peace with your neighbors. When they start crowing at 4 AM Your neighbor will not think it"s cute.
You can keep roosters and keep them quiet in the early morning but you have to build the chicken coupe so it does not let any light in, and you need to lock them in and not let them out till 8 or 9 in the morning.

A friend of ours who raises bantams had a bumper crop about 6 years ago. She had a lot of roosters and no buyers. We had a ridiculous amount of ticks so she and Jeannie got together and we ended up with 50 bantam roosters on the place. Jeannie just released them and they would roost in the trees. Well, our friends husband is a saw miller and left for work every day at 4:00 AM. Those little twerps would all start in at the same time every morning. Since they were roosting all over the place the crowing was in quadraphonic completely around the house. They did, however, wipe out the ticks.

Chicken coops should only have 2 doors by the way. If they had 4 doors they'd be chicken sedans...
