To All:

Below are some photos of one of my hive boxes.  I carried a complete hive box to De Leon ISD elementary school and talked about honey bees to three classes of third grade students.  I took my wife's medium size bee jacket, complete with fencing type head cover, and the students took turns wearing it.  I broke the hive box into two mediums and the top and let the kiddos write on it with magic markers.  The jacket and the bee hive were a huge success.  I was amazed at how well 10 and 11 year old students listened.  It was a fun day for me, and if you view the pictures, it was a fun day for the youngsters.

I estimate that there were a total of 75 students present.

The classes were about one-hour each, and I was surprised how well the kids listened.  I tried to limit my talk to about 25 or so minutes, and they were very attentive from beginning to end.  As a matter of fact, they were asking questions at the end of the period.  They enjoyed writing on the hive box and wearing my wife's bee jacket.  It was a fun day.

I brought some plastic spoons and let them dip their spoon in a bowl of honey.  They all loved the honey.  In fact, many of them wanted to know if I sold honey.  I don't.
