Les:
I too like rocks on the patio. That's good, as we have lots of rocky land in Texas. My ranch has two old, overgrown fields that has rock fences around the perimeter. Both fields are about 20 acres, that would make the perimeter a length of approximately 1,900 linear feet. The fence is about three feet high. The rocks that comprise the fence came out of the field. A family of pioneers carried the rocks to the edge of the field and someone had enough ability to stack them into a fence. The fence is probably 100 or more years old and most of it has fallen over. Still, when I drive by this fence I can only imagine a family carrying that many rocks to build a fence. In pioneer times they called it "pickin rocks."
