40 Acre Bees First Swarm Ever

We are ecstatic, we caught our first swarm ever today and it wasn't even ours.  I tell you, I know most of you do it all the time, but we found it just amazing.   Fifteen feet up in a tree, (didn't fall out of it either Perry) a big step ladder, a cardboard box, deep super and a pair of pruners.   It was a beekeeper with 4 hives  who  lives not 10 minutes away who didn't want to deal with a swarm and wanted it removed because of his neighbors.  We let them settle in their new home till tonight and and tomorrow we will set it up here with feed and hope for the best.   The only mistake we made is we didn't take any pictures.

We really set our limit at 4 now we have 5, I don't know what we will do if we get anymore.  we may have to set up a Bee Rescue   It was amazing there must of been 15 lbs of bees, there were two clumps about 10 inches across and about 20 inches high.  We were amazed

Congratulations!  15 pounds of bees...A colossal swarm for sure.  Feed them and they will draw comb very quickly.  Keep us posted.

They were just inches apart, could it be possible it was two swarms?  If so what effect will it have putting them all in one hive?  Just curious because it's too late now..

You can call it one or more. It was likely from one hive with 2 or more virgin queens. You could have split it with a queen in each, or they will either choose one or split it themselves.
