Two weeks ago our little Lizzie darted out of the garage and right into the wheel of a car. The worst scream I ever heard, I don't even remember making the dash down the driveway to get to her. She layed there in a crumpled heap and screamed even more as I picked her up. Thank goodness we have an ER Vet service 5 minutes from our house. We ran traffic lights to get there! Poor thing she was bleeding profusely and had a knot on her head the size of a softball. I have been through many traumas between myself and family and managed to keep it together but for the first time in my life I was bordering on hysterical. She was going into shock as they swooped her out of my arms and into the trauma room. What a long night! No fractures or internal organ damage but head trauma. I have to state, she only weighs 10 lbs, so there is not much to her. She made it through and we began the recovery process. She could not stand and would urinate where she laid. I decided after a week and with the Vet's okay that swim therapy was the way to go. She was a different dog in the water and actually had some spunk when she got out of the pool (I think mainly because she was indignant about being wet). It took days before we saw that tail wag just a little. I am happy to report that this pup has amazed us! This morning when I took her out to do her business, she spotted a rabbit and flew off the deck and across the yard. There are still neurological issues to work through but she will get there. Needless to say, some serious attention is now paid to ensuring the garage door is always closed! Life is never dull!
