Dry here
« on: July 08, 2016, 11:13:16 am »
Been dryer than a pop corn fart here. Bees are not finding much out there for them. Decided If I want them to buildup so that have a chance to make it thru the winter I need to start feeding them.
I have several pails (5 gallon) of crystalized honey I could use for feed. Just wondering if I should liquefy or just fill the top feeder up with the crystalized stuff?

:D  Al

I would liquefy otherwise the bees will suck the fructose sugars that are suspended around the crystallized glucose crystals. A lot of times the bees discard the crystals and you see them laying on the bottom board.
Keep and sell the honey. Sugar is much cheaper.

More rain would be nice down here. Can't complain though as the flow is still going pretty heavy.

al, i am with apis.........

you could liquefy it and feed back, i wouldn't feed them the crystallized solid, like apis said with crystallization, they will get what they can from it and discard the crystals, or leave the remaining crystals. (similar to crystallization in frames........clean up or use what they can, drag some crystals out, or just flat out leave the crystals in the frames.)

and like apis, i would just feed them sugar, and liquefy the crystallized honey to sell.
