A club member ordered several Carni. queens and i took 4 of them to make up nucs. I went to one of my outyards to take brood from some strong hives. The strongest hive in the yard 3 deeps and a med. super, the med. super was half full of honey and nectar, the top deep full of capped honey, the 2nd deep had 2 frames of capped honey on each side and was filling the middle frames with nectar,the bottom deep had 3 frames of pollen the rest was empty frames. The odd thing was no brood anywhere, but the hive was packed with bees and they were not noisy or aggressive? With no brood and looking like they were back filling? i placed one of the new queens in the hive (a 3 hole queen cage) and watched. They did not bite or try to sting her and covered the screen like they had found there queen? There are several flowers in bloom, blackeyed susans, some kind of weed with a pink bloom that had a stem and leaves like aster every where? and the golden rod trying to bust loose,plus other weeds so i'm not thinking dearth and the old queen shutting down. It was cloudy and the bees were bearding and not flying much and not working the flowers around them so i left the new queen in and brought the med. super home. Now i'm wondering if i did the right thing, or just executed a queen? What would you have done. Jack
