That's really good news about your son.  Our children are our greatest treasure.  Thank God that all was well.  Carbon monoxide is a silent killer.  We should all be thankful for the great emergency personnel that we have in our country.  Again, I'm so glad for you.

Thanks Lazy.  We're thankful and feel blessed that things worked out today.  He's 30 and my wife wanted to go take care of him for a few days but he talked her out of going.  Carbon monoxide is a bad one for sure and one that gets a few of us every year, especially in the colder parts of the country.  Not sure about the hypothermia but I'd guess the half mile sled ride on a stretcher didn't help when we were in the -20s. Just happy he's home and safe.

Up here there are always one or two incidents, especially during power outages. Generators are fired up in garages and such and the stuff seeps into the house.

Thanks Lee.  Son learned a valuable lesson so hopeful he'll be more careful.  Today is his last day of rest before returning to work.  He says he feels pretty close to normal today.  Yippee!

propane heater in an ice house/tent chip?

River, they had a propane heater and the fellow he fished with was closest to the door on the fish tent.  I suspect they sealed the tent off with snow more than they should have.  When it's -25 or so, you notice leaks under the tent more than normal.  I think he has a new appreciation of the value of ventilation now

Chip, I reread your remarks about gelling fuel.  If you can buy some Jet-A fuel you will be golden.  It is basically diesel that won't freeze.

I remember that stuff Lee.  Years ago, I spent 3 weeks on the tundra 45 miles from Churchill, MB.  Up there on a long-term goose study and the fuel was for helicopters I think.  We used them and also fixed-wing planes (mostly Otters) to shuttle people and supplies to camp.  Fuel was flown in and was in 55 gallon drums.  Also had gas in 55 gallon barrels.  Gets colder there than here.  Snow drifts were 15 feet deep around our cook house and was still there when we left 3 weeks later and that was June!

it's a good thing your son's friend was near the door or they both might have passed out. glad it ended well. the few times I've ice fished the tent or shack had a built in flue outlet. a friend of mine lost both of his elderly parents to c.m.. they had a garage in an open basement & his dad left the car running.
