After losing 2 hives back in nov. - dec.
I did crush an strain, after straining comb, i put wax a little at the time in the oven ss colander in a pyrex 13×9 at 125° to get wax.

What can i do with leftover honey an slum-gum ?



I did take slum gum and wipe inside of swarm traps

hi mikey,
some very nice looking wax you harvested!

about the honey and slumgum..........this is what i would do, i would heat just enough so you can filter the slumgum from the leftover honey. dilute your honey with water (i would probably use distilled) and feed it back to the bees, 1:1........
throw the slumgum out, unless you want to try and salvage whatever propolis is in it.

do you know why you lost the hives in november/december?

I have about a 30 lb. pail of slumgum left. I am going to put it into the solar melter I hope to rebuild (I broke it) and see if there is a bit of wax left in it. After that the rest will go in the compostainer.

Two things:

If you feed that 1:1 honey to the bees, take robbing precautions because the scent of the honey will bring robbing bees post-haste.

I use a silicone cake pan in my solar melter.  Silicone cake pans are my "EASY" button whenever I'm working with wax.  The good thing about them is that it makes it easy to get the wax separated from the mold and saves kitchen pans (and me) from the wrath of, "She, who must be obeyed".

Lee,  im doing to rednecks version so very primitive , but didn't know what to do with leftover honey an honey ?

And melted comb. Is slumgum the liquid or the leftover.?

After you remove the honey and the wax, what's left over is the slum gum.
Here's a couple pics of mine, but I still want to run what's in these 2 buckets through my solar melter as I can still see wax in there.

Mikey, I have to admit that I will sometimes open feed to clean up an extractor, or any other honey mess.  The bees do pretty well cleaning things up.  I have to watch that I don't set things too close to weak hives though, to prevent robbing.  My mentor was against open feeding, but I make exceptions.
