slow building nucs
« on: June 13, 2017, 08:03:09 am »
I made some splits a few weeks ago using bought queens. the flow has been weak & some of the nucs are building up up very sllloooowwly. I know there are several variables affecting things. the weak flow & that queens won't lay more brood than there are bees to cover being two. i'm wondering tho if feeding would help stimulate the queen into laying more. I could shake a few more bees into these nucs but do not really have any brood to spare at this time.

1 to 1 simulates nectar so might give them the idea to up brood production. If your weather has been crappy it would help on the days they aren't flying.

I would feed, feed, feed 1:2 sugar syrup even if there were a strong nectar flow on.  You will need them built up to get through the winter.
