Drone pupa Removal

Noticed that a couple hives had drone pupa tossed out this morning, just a couple of them on landing board. We are heading into our summer dearth and just wondering if this is normal for a large hive?

I guess they are getting a little grumpy as well since a bee tagged me on the forehead for no reason while filling their water supply this morning.  :-X
