Removed a feeder and cleaned crystalized sugar out of it with hot water and set on deck to dry.  There must have been enough residual soaked into wood to attract the attention of a few.

some folks are really creative, also, you would not find me digging up a yj nest in the ground with a shovel and a can of spray, that fella was pretty brave.

i remember a time when mr. riverbee einstein decided he was going to drown them out of the ground with a garden hose on full tilt with some special nozzle he had on the end of it.......... :D
i decided i had a better look at this operation from the inside of the house......... :D
he went running for the next door neighbors pool..........

btw, here is an old thread i posted in 2014, don't try to blast any yj/hornets nest out of tree with a shotgun:

That was a funny story and a nice way to start the day.

Most yellow jacket nests around here are taken care of by skunks before I get back to them.  I only found one while mowing this summer.  I’ve learned by hard experience to be observant that the first pass with mower is usually a freebie, but the second without noticing the low flying bees will bring on the hurt.

We had them bad this year. I fed two dozen cans of cat food with onslaught in about a month. It didn't get rid of them all, but it slowed them down.
