Tecumseh is cranky!
« on: February 19, 2014, 07:51:31 am »
Thought that might get a few hits!  :D
In the farce that has been my snow blower story, the latest development has been the electric start packing it in, so now the only way to get it started is by pull start.
That tecumseh can be hard to get going in the mornings.
I wonder if anyone else has the same problem?  :) ;D  (maybe Mrs. tecumseh)?

They are not easy starters for sure. I can only restart mine without the electric starter. Updraft carb and flat head and a not very positive choke plus not capacitor discharge ignition, dont make for good starting.  Push start is the best solution for them Perry. Pushing them over a cliff gets them going quick!

My 8 year old 8hp starts first pull, even in winter!
Drain the fuel out of it before storage. Gumed up!

LOL good title!
Not sure what it is about the electronic ignition small motors, but when it gets cold they can be a REAL pain to start.. Gimme points and I can start it in about any temps.
On the other hand, my Generac Generator starts on the second pull every time, and its about 20 years old..   Aluminum bowl corroded through so i coated it with bondo.. still going!

I call those "to junk yas", IMHO they are about the bottom of the barrel. A Honda motor is top of the line to me. I have a two inch ditch pump that was given to me from a strip mine hat was used as a fuel transfer pump, to say the least it was a real mess. A little TLC and she will start on the first or second pull every time...........knocking on wood. Been using it for close to twenty years.

Need some quick start...... Works on the most stubborn cold engines. Got a tractor that had sat for 12 years running using liberal squirts of ether.
