Russian Scion
« on: August 30, 2020, 09:54:19 am »
I came across this article http://www.homesweetbees.com/how-to/2020/4/24/russian-scion-swarm-catcher and wondered if anyone has had success with a Russian Scion?  It appears to be a temporary location for the swarm queen to land on while the scout bees go on reconnaissance.  Much better than 30 ft up in a tree.   Placement would have to be in a location where it can be observed several times a day during swarm season.   I think it would be really interesting put put a game camera fixed on the RS!
Here is a video of a someone who made one using a bucket. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdWMJdjeVc4  This would work for small swarms, but I think I would drill some ventilation holes in that bucket.

Anyone have any experience with a Russian Scion?

Interesting, thanks for sharing that. Never heard if it (along with a whole lot more).

Nope, but will be looking at it now.
