Green Mantidfly
« on: April 19, 2023, 03:37:04 pm »
My sister found one of these yesterday.  I wouldn't have known what it was if I hadn't just read about them the previous day in an issue of 2 Million Blossoms (RIP  ).  It's a green mantidfly.  They look like little praying mantises with lacewing wings, and they ambush hunt with their raptorial forelegs just like mantises do.  They aren't mantises though, they are actually in the same order as lacewings, dobsonflies, ant-lions, and such.  Anyone else ever seen one?

I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led.  And through the air, I am she that walks unseen.

Okay, THAT is a neat bug. If I ever saw one I likely would have thought it was a mantis. Thanks for sharing this little guy. :)
