sugar prices
« on: March 16, 2014, 07:52:24 pm »
I have several people asking me about making up some Nucs.  I have a few queens coming I orders back in January to replace loses.  I told them I probably wouldn't have any for sale, at least until later.  Got to thinking though,  since this an area I want to get into eventually, maybe I should put a few out there.

Since sugar equals bees, and I have made several on fifty cents a pound sugar, whats the going rate for sugar besides buying at the local grocer in your area?

here I pay about $10 for a 25# sack at Sams.  I wish there was a Cosco around since their sugar appears to be about $1/ bag cheaper.

Costco is about the cheapest up here too.
Around $17 for 20 kilos. (44 lbs.)

There's a bent can store here that carries 4-lb bags regularly $1.69.  Sometimes they run a special $1.49.  Once they had a sale at $1.29 for a 4-lb bag.  I tried to get over there, but they had already sold out.

Another snow day so I didn't go into town.  Going to check with the  local grocery manager after I find a number to compare it to.  Looking like 40 cents a pound is a good number to shoot for.  You guys stocking up on the larger bags, do you have any problems with the sugar caking up and how do you deal with that?

By buying the 4lb bags by ten or so at a time I can usually just pour it into a jug and shake and mix.  That is unless I leave it in the vehicle or on the back porch and the humidity clumps it up for me.
