Jen's Swarm Happy Hive Update

Got into the mother hive today.

Pro's: Hive still has plenty of bees left. Lots of nectar/syrup storing. Lot's of Drones. And I found A Queen    No capped queen cells of any sort! found three empty queen cells, one on the center of the frame and two on the bottom of the frame.

Con's: There is virtually no eggs, larvae or capped brood. Sooo, putting this together in my mind... the queens that left with the swarm were virgins so there wouldn't have been any egg laying these past few weeks...

Empty? they were empty?  You mean they decided to settle down??    Astonishing!!!

   It looks to me like that queen is laying too.

   Looks like things are starting to settle down a bit for you.. just beginning to ramp up here..

Nice pic of a queen. Also, pic # 4, when I blow it up, it looks like egg and young larvae just below that bee directly below the open cell.
Close it up and leave it alone for a while.

Now, hubby kept reminding me that last spring this same hive swarmed three times, and by the end of summer she was stuffed full of bees again. Crossing Fingers ~

When should I check in again? couple of weeks or more?

I would wait maybe 10 days and then have a quick peek, just to make sure she's getting along alright.. Then, just make sure she has room.

Now the the bees have settled how many frames were the bees covering? With in that cluster space the queen will quickly lay all but 3 frames to a maximum of 10-12 frames, that are being covered by the bees. Is there enough open space for the queen to lay in? Some nectar and pollen is not a problem as the bees will consume and feed it to the developing larva. watch for the brood chamber becoming to plugged up.
