Cold weather feed

Hello, can you help?
What do you suggest for feeding a weak hive when it's too cold to feed liquid?

I would suggest using the "mountain camp method''. This is where you add a 2" tall shim (think of a 2" tall super) on top of the top super or brood box. Lay a sheet of newspaper on top of the frames with some space around the edges, then pour up to 10 pounds of cane sugar on the newspaper. Some will give it just a light misting of water to help it clump together. This is just for emergency feeding only and should be done fairly quickly to help eliminate chilling the cluster even more.

  I actually do this in the fall when i wrap.. some folks advise against doing it that way, but I havent had any disasters yet.. give me time!!!

That particular time I got strung once.  Believe it or not, the last bee got me, but it was my own fault.  I went to brush it off under my cheek and pitched her.  

Here is another for you,  and my son's first attempt.   He is striving for a full beard come spring.  It just got too late in the season here to do more.

Awesome!!     I dont usually wear a veil..  I dont mind getting stung all THAT much... I find it amusing when bees land on me and my wife runs off...  I can pet them, let them crawl about on me...  but somehow.. I haven't the SLIGHTEST desire to do that???  I LOVE seeing other people do it, but  apparently when my mother dropped me on my head at a young age that desire was knocked clear GONE!!     :mrgreen:

Hey Poderac, getting back to the original post. I would feed them 'winter patties'.  It's protein food for the bees. And whatever you do, don't feed them anything with pollen in it. It will make the queen start laying way to early. Disasterous.

Lazy- I don't usually wear a veil, I like to sit next to them in the morning a let them land on me. However!! The last bee that got me landed on the edge of my nostril, and quite adeptly swung her abdomen deep into my nostril and nailed me a good one. My eyes watered for a couple of hours. Geez
