Got my Queens today
« on: May 14, 2014, 02:33:55 pm »
Springfield main post office called this mourning and said they had my queens and could come and get them or wait till tomorrow and get them at the Fair Grove post office, went and got them and they were thirsty. Now another problem, the temp. here is in the low 50's daytime and mid 30's night time for today and the next 3 days with possible frost this coming Saturday night. Looks like oldman winter is showing his Butt again. :o Jack

I was thinking about that as well Jack..  Packages arriving tomorrow, but supposed to be 37 tomorrow night.. I might wait until Friday morning to hive them... I might hive them and put the winter foam on top fo rthe night... Havent decided yet.  Maybe I will do a little of both and see which works best?

Thanks Jen, supposed to be in the 80's next week. If the sun shines and with a 60F window opens up between now and then, there will be some splitting going on here.  8) Jack

Jack, I am in the same boat as you.  Yesterday I requeened a hive that had the laying worker and I did a shake out on.  I have two packages arriving Friday or Saturday from just east of St. Louis.  It's supposed to warm up this weekend, so maybe all will go well.  Everyone else got their packages a month ago.  But you know what? It was stinkin' cold then too!  Instead of California bees I want to try some good 'ole mid western bees.  I know the price for mid western bees is to wait for them to build up so that the providers can do packages.  I think this year has been a real challenge, for the providers, because of the cool weather.

The weather has been a factor for queen breeders, the weather where i'm getting my queens has been just about the same as ours over the last few years, this year for sure. Jack
